In an episode of Mythbusters, this myth was tested by shooting an Apple Powerbook G4 at close range with a 12-gauge shotgun. The team ran two tests - the first was unsuccessful, but for the second trial they aimed for the computer’s battery. Amazingly, this time the laptop was able to withstand the impact of the shotgun blast! DO NOT try this at home however - this does not have any kind of Discovery channel guarantee on it. It worked the one time under specific circumstances. It’s no substitute for a real bullet-proof vest.  Watch a laptop take a shotgun blast in slow motion!
